Fayemi Wins At Ekiti Governorship Election Tribunal

BEVERLY HILLS, January 28, (THEWILL) – An Election Tribunal sitting in Abuja and led by its chairman, Suleiman Belgore, has on Monday, unanimously struck out the petition filed by Kolapo Olusola of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and upheld Dr Kayode Fayemi of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the duly elected governor of Ekiti State.

Eleka had filed a petition against Fayemi alleging series of election irregularities and malpractices in the July 14 governorship poll.

The tribunal said the PDP and its candidate, Olusola, failed to prove allegations of substantial non-compliance with the Electoral Act.

The three-man panel held that the petitioners failed to prove that Fayemi was not duly returned as the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In the over 700-page petition filed on Friday, Olusola had asked the tribunal to declare him as the winner of the election “having scored the majority of lawful votes.”
