February 05, (THEWILL) – The Federal Executive Council has greenlit N203.6 billion for six key infrastructure projects in the Federal Capital Territory, aimed at enhancing road networks, erosion control, and water supply systems.
Minister of State for the FCT, Mariya Bunkure, disclosed this on Tuesday after the council meeting presided over by President Bola Tinubu.
She emphasised that the projects are part of the administration’s efforts to improve the living conditions of FCT residents.
“The first project, worth N13.18 billion, was awarded to Infu Ernest International Ltd for the construction of an access road to the FCT Fire Service Institution and erosion control in Kaura District, with an 18-month completion timeline,” Bunkure stated.
She further revealed that the Guzape District Lot 1 engineering infrastructure project received a revised cost approval, increasing from N22.2 billion to N70.89 billion, with an additional 18-month completion period.
“CCECC will handle the construction of a 7-kilometer access road bypassing the airport’s second railway from Clinton Drive to Tunga Madaki settlement, including a full-span bridge, at N27.6 billion, slated for completion in 12 months,” she added.
Julius Berger secured the contract for rehabilitating major Maitama District roads, including Yakubu Gowon Crescent, Thomas Sankara Road, JFK Street, and others. The project is valued at N20.4 billion, with an eight-month deadline.
Dantata and Sawoe Construction Company will complete engineering infrastructure in Guzape Lot 1 and 2 for N54.38 billion within 18 months. Additionally, SCC Nigeria Ltd will rehabilitate Phases 1, 3, and 4 of the Lower Usuma Dam Water Treatment Plant for N17.2 billion plus $79,000, to be completed in 12 months.
Bunkure stressed, “These approvals reflect the Tinubu administration’s commitment to infrastructure development and enhancing essential services in the FCT.”
In a related development, the council approved N80 billion for the reconstruction and rehabilitation of Alau Dam in Borno State. Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation, Joseph Utsev, revealed that the project, a collaboration between the federal government and Borno State, will span 24 months.
“The first component will be completed between February and July 2025 to prevent flooding in Borno State,” Utsev noted.
Furthermore, FEC endorsed the Creative Leap Acceleration Program (CLAP), a digital platform to support Nigeria’s creative sector with training, funding, and networking opportunities. Minister of Art, Culture, Tourism, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, said CLAP will cover 49 creative sub-sectors, boosting global recognition for Nigerian creators.
She also announced the approval of “Destination 2030 Nigeria Everywhere,” a brand initiative leveraging cultural and creative content to enhance Nigeria’s global image. A seven-part series, “Nigeria Everywhere Shorts,” will promote national pride and self-reflection globally.
