May 15, (THEWILL) — The Federal Government has signed contract agreements worth approximately ₦690.8 billion for the construction and reconstruction of major road projects across Kaduna, Oyo, Ogun, and Osun states.
The projects, covering a total of 379.5 kilometres of highways, were formally awarded by the Federal Ministry of Works to four construction firms during a contract signing ceremony held on Thursday at the Ministry’s Headquarters in Mabushi, Abuja.
Disclosing this in a statement, the Director of Press and Public Relations of the Ministry, Mohammed Ahmed, said the ceremony represented another major milestone in the Federal Government’s determination to deliver durable and sustainable road infrastructure capable of transforming transportation and economic activities nationwide.
According to the statement, the four projects were awarded to Messrs J. Patel and Sons Nigeria Limited, Messrs JRB Construction Company Limited, Messrs Truecrete Solutions Limited, and Messrs Peculiar Ultimate Concerns Limited.
Speaking during the event, Minister of Works, David Umahi, described the projects as strategic national infrastructure that would enhance mobility, facilitate commerce, reduce travel time, and deepen national integration.
He said the projects aligned with the infrastructure development vision of the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu under the Renewed Hope agenda.
Umahi noted that the reconstruction of the Mando–Birnin Gwari Road in Kaduna State was particularly significant because it formed part of the critical infrastructure commitments made by President Tinubu during the 2022/2023 election campaigns.
According to the minister, the administration remains committed to building modern and durable infrastructure capable of serving future generations through the deployment of advanced engineering technology.
“Our vision is to build roads that will last for generations. Under the Renewed Hope administration, we are determined to deliver infrastructure that can serve Nigerians for up to 100 years through the adoption of rigid pavement (concrete) technology,” Umahi stated.
He explained that all the awarded projects would be executed using Continuously Reinforced Concrete Pavement (CRCP) technology, which the government considers more durable, cost-effective, and sustainable than conventional asphalt pavements.
The minister further commended the selected contractors for their competence, track records, and proven execution capacity, particularly praising indigenous construction firms for their growing contributions to national infrastructure development.
He specifically lauded JRB Construction Company Limited and Truecrete Solutions Limited for their commendable performances on previous projects handled across the country.
Umahi also directed the contractors to immediately mobilise to their various project sites and commence work without delay, stressing that the Ministry expected measurable progress and strict compliance with project timelines.
