March 17, (THEWILL) — The Federal Government has introduced a “Fly Now, Pay Later” consumer credit scheme to ease the burden of rising domestic airfares and improve access to air travel for Nigerians.

The initiative, unveiled on Tuesday by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) via its official X handle, allows eligible passengers to book local flights and spread payments over time through structured financing arrangements.

The development comes against the backdrop of soaring ticket prices, which have increasingly placed air travel beyond the reach of many Nigerians, despite growing demand for intercity connectivity.

During the 2025 yuletide season, one-way fares on several domestic routes surged by as much as 150 percent, with prices exceeding ₦300,000. Airline operators have attributed the spike to high aviation fuel costs, foreign exchange volatility, and other operational challenges impacting the sector.

CREDICORP said the newly introduced credit solution is designed to eliminate the upfront payment barrier that often disrupts or delays urgent travel plans.

“Through this initiative, eligible customers can book domestic flights today and repay the cost over time through structured financing”, the corporation stated.

The scheme is being implemented in partnership with MyVisaro and Alert Microfinance Bank as part of broader efforts to expand access to responsible consumer credit and deepen financial inclusion across the country.

Prospective beneficiaries are expected to apply through the Visaro platform to access the facility and book flights nationwide.

According to CREDICORP, the programme aligns with its mandate to enhance Nigerians’ access to essential services through innovative financial solutions.

“At CREDICORP, we remain committed to enabling Nigerians to live better now. Fly now. Pay later. Opportunity shouldn’t wait”, the statement added.
