December 18, (THEWILL) — The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding students and ensuring uninterrupted academic activities nationwide following the reopening of the 47 Unity Colleges earlier shut over security concerns.
This assurance was contained in a statement issued on Thursday by the Director of Press and Public Relations of the Federal Ministry of Education, Mrs Boriowo Folasade, who confirmed that academic activities have fully resumed in the affected schools after security was strengthened within and around their premises.
According to the statement, students have returned safely to their campuses, with many currently rounding off their December academic programmes, while others have concluded their examinations.
“The Federal Ministry of Education assures parents, guardians and the general public that the safety, welfare and well-being of students remain a top priority.
“The Government continues to work closely with relevant security agencies to sustain stability and restore normalcy within school environments nationwide,” Boriowo said.
She added that the Federal Government remains resolute in protecting every Nigerian child and upholding their fundamental right to education in a safe and secure environment.
Boriowo further noted that the present administration places strong emphasis on human capital development, recognising education as a critical pillar for national growth and development.
She stressed that the government is determined to prevent disruptions to the academic calendar despite prevailing challenges.
“The safe return of students and the successful conduct of examinations in several Unity Colleges underscore the Government’s resolve to keep learning on track,” she added.
The Ministry also commended the patience and cooperation of parents, school administrators and students, reiterating its commitment to sustaining a secure, stable and uninterrupted education system across the country.
