December 18, (THEWILL) — President Bola Tinubu has approved the reconstitution of the Board of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), appointing Dr Mulisiu Olalekan Oseni as the new Chairman of the Commission.

The approval followed the confirmation of the board members by the Senate on December 16, according to a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr Bayo Onanuga.

Dr Oseni, who joined NERC as a Commissioner in January 2017 and later served as Vice Chairman, assumed office as Chairman with effect from December 1, 2025.

His appointment will run until the completion of his 10-year tenure, in line with the provisions of the Electricity Act, 2023.

Dr Yusuf Ali was also appointed Vice Chairman of the Commission. He was first appointed as a Commissioner in February 2022, with his designation as Vice Chairman taking effect from December 1, 2025, to complete his first term.

Other members of the reconstituted board include Mr Nathan Rogers Shatti and Mr Dafe Akpeneye, both serving second terms as Commissioners after their initial appointments in January 2017; Aisha Mahmud Kanti Bello, serving her second term following her first appointment in December 2020; and Dr Chidi Ike, who is currently serving his first term after his appointment in February 2022.

Dr Fouad Animashaun also joins the board as a Commissioner with effect from December 2025. An energy economist with extensive experience in the power sector, he most recently served as Executive Commissioner and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission.

President Tinubu has charged the reconstituted NERC board to deepen and consolidate ongoing reforms in the electricity sector, in strict compliance with the letter and spirit of the Electricity Act, 2023, as part of efforts to strengthen regulation and improve power supply nationwide.
