SAN FRANCISCO, May 15, (THEWILL) – The Federal Government has revealed said that it will not interfere in the on-going court actions in respect of the Malabu Oil Prospecting Lease, OPL 245 scandal.
This was disclosed by the Minister of State for Petroleum, Ibe Kachikwu, in a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Civil Society Network Against Corruption (CSNAC), Olanrewaju Suraju.
The organization had written to Kachikwu warning the government against compromising the investigation and prosecution of the Malabu saga due to a recent endorsement of ENI by Kachikwu on his recent trip.
The Minister, while addressing journalists on the side-lines of the annual Offshore Technology Conference in Houston Texas, USA had disclosed that the Zabazaba Deepwater project in OPL 245 will continue in spite of controversies surrounding the oil block.
Confused by the statement, the group wrote him urging him to allow the courts decide on the Malabu corruption saga without interference or pressure from the Government.
Responding, the Minister assured the group that the anti-graft agencies of the government were already on the matter and there would be no interference.
