FIFA has expelled Zimbabwe from 2018 World Cup qualifying for failing to pay its national team coach.
FIFA’s disciplinary committee took the action “as a result of the non-payment of an outstanding debt” by Zimbabwe’s Football Federation to former coach Jose Claudinei Georgini, who managed the national team from January to November 2008.
FIFA says the African country had been given several deadlines and warnings but still failed to make the payments and as a result they have been expelled from the preliminary qualifying competition for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
A FIFA statement read: “The FIFA disciplinary committee today notified the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) that it was expelled from the preliminary competition of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.”
