December 05, (THEWILL) – A devastating fire has completely destroyed the National Social Investment Programme Agency warehouse in the Idu area of Abuja, resulting in the loss of training tools valued at billions of Naira.
Dr. Yusuf Sununu, the Minister of State for Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, confirmed the incident during a visit to the site.
He explained that the equipment was intended for the training of N-Power beneficiaries under the NSIPA initiative.
In a statement issued by Rhoda Ishaku, the Director of Information and Public Relations at the Ministry, Sununu announced the establishment of a five-member committee tasked with investigating the cause of the fire.
The committee has been given two weeks to submit its findings.
“The Committee will assess the cost of the items destroyed in the fire. Moving forward, we will implement additional security measures to protect the remaining items in our warehouses. We will also prioritize the immediate commencement of training for beneficiaries so that the assets already procured can be put to effective use,” the minister stated.
Sununu commended the quick response of the Federal Fire Service, the FCT Fire Service, and Julius Berger, whose efforts helped contain the blaze.
He also acknowledged the Nigeria Police Life Camp Division for ensuring the safety and security of the warehouse during the incident.
The fire marks a significant setback for the NSIPA, but the ministry has pledged to take swift action to mitigate the impact and continue its training programs for beneficiaries across the country.
