BEVERLY HILLS, November 10, (THEWILL) – Five Americans Monday morning in Damare, few kilometres from Yola, the Adamawa State capital, survived a military helicopter crash, though two of them were said to have sustained serious leg injuries.
Local residents in the village told THEWILL that the helicopter, which was conveying 20 boxes of arms and ammunitions, may have been shot down by Boko Haram snipers.
According to local sources, the helicopter appeared to have been distressed as it hovered in the air for some minutes before crashing eventually.
“I think the pilot was looking for a safer spot to crash land and later crashed in a swampy area,” an eyewitness told journalists.
The witness further disclosed that the Americans on board the helicopter chased away the villagers who had come to rescue them from the scene as they made telephone calls to the military to send another helicopter to evacuate the weapons inside the ill-fated helicopter.
Military men were said to have arrived the scene later and cordoned off the area as the injured Americans were evacuated to an undisclosed hospital.
