June 25, (THEWILL) – Benue State Governor, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia, has condemned the killing of two Kano State indigenes by suspected criminals at the Agan Toll Gate settlement in Makurdi, the state capital.
Describing the attack as barbaric and unacceptable, Governor Alia declared that the perpetrators must be brought to justice without delay.
According to a statement issued on Wednesday by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Tersoo Kula, the governor disclosed that five suspects had already been apprehended by the police in connection with the killings, following his directive to the Commissioner of Police and other security agencies to ensure the swift arrest of the culprits.
“The Governor is deeply saddened by the deaths of two innocent Nigerians identified as indigenes of Kano State, who were travelling through Benue when they were brutally attacked and killed by criminal elements,” the statement read.
“Benue people are known for their hospitality and peaceful disposition. We cannot allow a few criminal elements to tarnish our image and portray our people in a negative light. These criminals must be fished out and made to face the full wrath of the law.”
Governor Alia extended his heartfelt condolences to his Kano State counterpart, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, over the tragic loss of the two citizens. He also appealed for calm and assured the government and people of Kano State that justice would be served.
As of the time of filing this report, the Benue State Police Command had yet to release an official statement on the incident.
