SAN FRANCISCO, January 18, (THEWILL) – A fresh suicide bombing at a motor park in Potiskum, the largest commercial town in Yobe State, Sunday morning, has claimed the lives of five persons while 36 others were injured..
Local sources told THEWILL that a lone suicide bomber had arrived the Bulala Motor park along the Bauchi-Jos road in the town, pretending to be a passenger. He was said to have later detonated the explosives strapped on his body, killing himself and four others instantly.
The blast is the third to have rocked the town within three weeks.
A motor park source said of the incident; “The explosion went off around 9:50am on Sunday at the Bulala motor park close to Ibal filling station along Jos road.
“As I speak, we have counted five dead bodies but so many others are lying critical and are being conveyed to the nearby hospital in Potiskum for immediate medical attention.”
This came as a staff of the General Hospital Potiskum who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed that of the 41 persons brought to the hospital, five have died and 36 others are injured.
Expressing the fear that the death toll may rise as some of the injured were still on danger list, the hospital source said nine persons have been referred to the Federal Medical Centres in Azare, Bauchi State and Nguru in Yobe State.
