BEVERLY HILLS, October 2, (THEWILL) – Here are highlights of the latest happenings in European football transfer window as we approach the October 5, 2020 deadline.
Lazio: Pereira
Manchester United confirmed on Friday that their midfielder, the Belgian-Brazilian Andreas Pereira has been loaned to the Serie A side Lazio for the rest of the season. The 24-year-old had struggled without much success to get playing time in the premiership club following the arrival of the impressive Bruno Fernandes in January, this year.
Neither team revealed if the deal has an option to buy at the end but THEWILL believes that Lazio will have the option to sign Pereira permanently in a deal that could be in the region of about £24.5 million in the next transfer window. Though the midfielder managed 40 appearances in all competitions for United last season, he could not break into the starting line-up after Fernandes stole the headlines.
Pereira featured just twice in United’s final 12 Premier League games of the season and each time as a late substitute. The English club will be glad to have his wages off their books even if it is by a loan deal.
Tottenham: Vinicius
THEWILL can confirm that Carlos Vinicius will spend the rest of the 2020/2021 season on loan at the North London side Tottenham Hotspur with the option of making the deal a permanent move from Benfica at the end of the season. An agreement was reached early on Friday for the 25-year-old to join Spurs. The latter paid £2.7 million to take the Brazilian on loan and will likely pay £41 million (inclusive of the initial payment) to get the striker on a permanent basis in summer.
Vinicius comes as the joint-leading goal scorer in the Primeira Liga for the previous season finding the net 18 times in 32 appearances in the league and 22 times in 46 games in all competitions. That came into consideration to make him Jose Mourinho’s choice to provide back-up for the English club’s prolific striker and captain Harry Kane as Spurs go in search of domestic and European glory.
Sheffield United: Brewster
English Premier League side, Sheffield United has identified the need to be more clinical in front of goal. To attain that objective, they broke the bank with the record signing of former Liverpool man Rhian Brewster. The 20-year-old English player has joined the Blades in a club-record deal worth around £23.5 million on a five-year-contract.
Sheffield’s magnificent ninth-place finish in the Premier League last season, their first year of promotion to the top flight football competition in England, was impressive. However, the stunning campaign last season nonetheless, the lack of sharpness in the striking department was apparent.
Chris Wilder, the coach acknowledged that the finishing was an area the team needed to shore up, become more clinical in and bring competition to. Opta data proves this point with the Blades having mustered 258 shots all season, the lowest total of any team in the Premiership. They believe they have the man to solve this problem in Brewster and they hope he has an instant impact. Brewster scored 11 goals in 22 league games while at loan to Swansea City in the second half of last season. THEWILL hopes that tally will improve in his new outfit to provide Sheffield the cutting edge they desire.
Roma: Mayoral
Roma has paid €2 million for the temporary deal to obtain the services of Real Madrid’s forward, Borja Mayoral. The deal includes an option to buy in a permanent move for €20 million in the subsequent campaign. An academy graduate from the youth ranks at Madrid, Mayoral debuted in the senior team in October 2015. A loan spell at Wolfsburg followed when he could not establish himself in the Madrid first team. In the Bundesliga, he could only manage 2 goals in 21 appearances in all competitions. But, a return to Spain and to the La Liga side Levante improved his odds with 14 goals in 69 appearances. Roma are hopeful that Italy will be good for him and are pleased he decided to join.
