BEVERLY HILLS, October 28, (THEWILL) – Chief Tony Anenih, 85, one of the most formidable politicians from Edo State and Southern Nigeria died Sunday in a private hospital in Abuja after a brief ailment.
Family sources who confirmed his demise to THEWILL, said the politician who quit partisan politics more than a year ago after he suffered two quick successive deaths (wife and son), had been frail and taking life easy.
His son had stated that the family would release a statement later tonight.
Born in Edo State, Mr Anenih was one of the most influential politicians of his era. He was nicknamed ‘Mr Fix It’ for his ability to manipulate the electoral process.
THEWILL recalls that in July this year, he cancelled his 85th birthday celebration, over the sad state of affairs in Nigeria.
Anenih was also married to Josephine Anenih, a lawyer, who was the chairperson of the Federation of Women Lawyers from 1994 to 2000 and also was the first National Woman Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, from 1999-2005.
