February 12, (THEWILL) — Sean Dyche has been dismissed by Nottingham Forest after four months in charge, becoming the third manager sacked by the club this season. The 54-year-old’s final match was a 0-0 draw at home to bottom-placed Wolverhampton Wanderers on Wednesday, despite Forest registering 35 shots. The club confirmed his departure early on Thursday morning, thanking him and his staff for their efforts.
Dyche won just six of his 18 English Premier League matches since replacing Ange Postecoglou in October. Forest currently sit 17th in the table, only three points clear of the relegation zone, having won three of their past 13 fixtures across all competitions. The former Everton boss also oversaw an FA Cup third-round penalty exit to Championship side Wrexham, though Forest did qualify for the Europa League play-offs, where they face Fenerbahce.
The club’s turbulent campaign began in September when Nuno Espirito Santo was sacked less than a month into the season, despite guiding the team to seventh place and European qualification the previous year. Postecoglou then endured a winless eight-match spell before being replaced by Dyche, who beat competition from Roberto Mancini and Marco Silva for the role. Sources within the dressing room have pointed to a disconnect between Dyche’s coaching methods and the playing squad.
Owner Evangelos Marinakis now faces the task of appointing his fourth manager of a chaotic season. After the Wolves match, Dyche acknowledged the precarious nature of his position. “If the owner wants to make a change, then that is up to him, and that is the way football is now, that is just the reality of it,” he said. Forest travel to Fenerbahce for the first leg of their play-off tie on February 19.
