July 14, (THEWILL) — A three-storey building has collapsed at the Abedi area of Sabon Gari in the Fagge local government area of Kano state.
Spokespersons of the Kano State Fire Service and the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Saminu Yusif and Umar Madigawa, said the building collapsed Sunday evening, after a heavy downpour, killing at least four persons, leaving seven others injured.
The victims included construction workers and passersby who got trapped in an uncompleted structure while taking shelter during the rainfall.
While the injured victims have been evacuated to the Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital for medical attention, efforts were being intensified by the emergency responders to safely reach others who may be trapped under the debris.
“The Kano operation office received a distress alert at 6:49 pm about the sad incident and immediately activated its Search and Rescue (SAR) response by mobilising a response team in collaboration with relevant stakeholders. As of 11:30 am on Monday, 11 victims have been rescued, among whom four were already dead and seven others alive”, Madigawa said.
