BEVERLY HILLS, CA, November 23, (THEWILL) – A fresh Boko Haram attack on the Borno village of Sandiya in Damboa Local Government Area of the state on Wednesday claimed the lives of 12 persons .
Several buildings were also set on fire during the ambush on the village by the gunmen who also displaced many residents.
Damboa, according to local sources, is about 85 kilometres south of Maiduguri, the state capital, and had witnessed several Boko Haram attacks in the past.
The terrorists were said to have regrouped and were apparently  on a revenge mission following the deadly military onslaught on their fortress in the Sambissa Forest during which they suffered great causalities.
Local informants had exposed the modus operandi of the insurgents to the military who used the information to launch deadly attacks on their fortress. Apparently annoyed by the development, the terrorists were said to have arrived Sandiya village  midnight on Wednesday ,  and started opening fire on the residents and setting their houses ablaze.
Numbering about 30, the fully armed gunmen were said to have stormed the village  in three pick-up vehicles and motorcycles and started chanting Allahu Akbar (God is Great) before opening sporadic gun fire on the residents,   killing of 12 of them in the process, and injuring several others .
The Borno State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Tanko Lawal, while confirming the attack, said, ” The story is true. Hoodlums invaded the community and killed 12 persons, burnt houses, stole vehicles and motorcycles. “
