BEVERLY HILLS, November 05, (THEWILL) – No fewer than 24 persons were lost to road accidents across Borno State in the past 10 months.

The state Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Malam Abdulkadir Najume, who disclosed this Wednesday, added that 24 deaths were recorded in 27 cases of road accidents in the state between January and October 2014.

Najume, who made the disclosure in Maiduguri, the state capital, said 102 persons, out of which 20 were females and the rest 82 were males, were involved in various roads accidents within the period.

According to him, 38 persons sustained varying degrees of injuries while 42 persons who were rescued by FRSC officials were subsequently taken to various hospitals in Maiduguri.

According to Najume, “These accidents occurred from 15 of January to October 2014 on various roads. Just last month, we recorded 22 cases of death along Minok 42 kilometres from Maiduguri.”

The Road Safety Sector Commander however assured that “We shall keep on with our campaign targeted at high risk drivers, like commercial drivers and underage drivers.”

He also promised that the Corps would continue to enlighten the drivers on the need to obey traffic laws in order to ensure safety on the roads.
