March 15, (THEWILL) – The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has said Governor Siminalayi Fubara will suffer more setbacks amid the ongoing political crisis in the state.
Wike made the remarks on Saturday, in Abalama, Asari-Toru Local Government Area, during a Thanksgiving Service and Civic Reception held in his honour.
The remarks followed recent Supreme Court ruling, which on February 28, 2025, upheld a Federal High Court order preventing the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and the Accountant General of the Federation from releasing Rivers State’s monthly allocations. Additionally, the the court directed the Amaewhule-led faction to resume legislative duties unhindered and invalidated the October 5, 2024, local government elections in the state. It also directed the Amaewhule-led faction to resume legislative duties unhindered.
Earlier, protests erupted in the area as demonstrators armed with placards opposed Wike’s presence in the community. They condemned his recent remarks that the Ijaws are minority in Rivers.
Addressing the situation, Wike mocked Governor Fubara’s leadership and blamed his advisers for his political troubles.
He said, “When I heard some people say I must not come here, I said I must come. And this occasion must hold. Who dem be? where dem dey? How many dem be?
“You (Fubara) surrounded yourself with people who wanted to be governor, whom I said ‘no, these people don’t mean well for Rivers State.’ They are the ones surrounding you, giving you advice. Do you think you will succeed? They will give bad advice and lead you to hell fire, and look at what bad advice is doing to you. You are already down 2-0, and there’s more to come.
“Look at those surrounding the Governor, they are ingrates. You said nothing will happen, now something is happening. While we are sitting down enjoying, they are having high blood pressure.
“I told you the lawmakers will not lose their seats, did they lose their seats? I told you that shenanigan they called Local Government Election will not stand, How far? I dont need to be a Governor to know that what is illegal is illegal. People who love peace don’t threaten people. I have defeated them before, I will continue to defeat them.
“I want to make it known today, in this State, anywhere you are, today 15th of March, I am supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. People cannot come use people and dump them and you say it’s politics. That politics must stop. That politics of use and dump must stop. All the projects they are commissioning are my initiatives, where is their own?”
