March 15, (THEWILL) – Manchester City failed to reclaim their position in the top four of the English Premier League following a hard-fought 2-2 draw against Brighton and Hove Albion. The result extends City’s recent run of disappointing form after their defeat to Nottingham Forest last weekend.
Erling Haaland put City ahead from the penalty spot before Pervis Estupinan equalised with an impressive free kick for Brighton. Omar Marmoush restored City’s advantage with a powerful strike from distance just before half-time, giving the visitors a 2-1 lead at the interval.
Brighton responded quickly after the restart, drawing level in the 48th minute through an unfortunate Abdukodir Khusanov own goal. Both teams created numerous opportunities to find a winner throughout an entertaining second half, but neither side could convert their chances into a decisive goal.
The shared points leave Manchester City sitting fifth in the EPL table while Brighton remain in seventh position. Both clubs have ground to make up in their pursuit of Champions League qualification spots for the 2025/2026 season.
Pep Guardiola’s charges will need to improve their consistency if they hope to return to the top four, having now dropped points in consecutive EPL fixtures.
