June 12, (THEWILL) – Suspended Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reaffirmed his commitment to the rule of law, human rights, and inclusive governance, urging citizens to unite for the progress of the state.
In a Democracy Day message issued on Thursday by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, Fubara pledged to uphold a transparent, accountable, and people-driven government while prioritizing the protection of lives and property through improved security strategies.
Addressing the people of Rivers, Fubara stressed the need for collective responsibility to deepen democracy and strengthen the state’s future.
He said, “The future of Rivers State depends on our ability to work together, innovate, and move forward with shared goals.”
The governor reflected on Nigeria’s 26 years of uninterrupted democratic rule, describing it as both a triumph and a test of the nation’s resilience.
He noted that the political crisis in the state was a reminder of the fragility of democracy and the need to constantly defend and nurture it.
“Democracy is not self-sustaining. It must be protected, guided, and kept alive through our actions, choices, and shared resolve,” Fubara said.
He emphasised that his administration has promoted fairness, protected civil liberties, and implemented systems for inclusive and responsible governance, all aimed at fostering democratic values for future generations.
Acknowledging the setbacks Rivers has faced on its democratic journey, Fubara maintained that the unwavering determination of its people remains the state’s greatest strength.
He urged citizens to approach the current moment with unity, courage, and renewed purpose.
He stated, “This period is a call to action.
“We must apply our collective creativity, energy, and commitment to overcome the challenges ahead and build a peaceful, united society rooted in healing and shared vision.”
Fubara also paid tribute to past leaders for their sacrifices in laying the groundwork for today’s democracy, encouraging the people of Rivers to build on that legacy with patriotism and dedication.
He appealed to citizens to take active roles in shaping a state that reflects the aspirations of all its residents, expressing confidence that Rivers would emerge stronger and more united.
He stated, “Our democracy will thrive if we continue to act with responsibility and shared purpose.
“Together, we can build a Rivers State that truly works for everyone.”
