June 12, (THEWILL) – President Bola Tinubu has cancelled his earlier scheduled Democracy Day broadcast to the nation, opting instead to deliver a live address during a joint session of the National Assembly on Thursday, June 12.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations at the Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation.
The statement read in part, “Due to His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR’s scheduled attendance at the National Assembly Joint Session, the Presidential National Broadcast on June 12 has been cancelled.
“President Tinubu will deliver his address from the National Assembly. All other plans remain as earlier announced.”
The President had initially been expected to deliver a national broadcast at 7 a.m. as part of events marking this year’s Democracy Day celebrations.
Instead, he will now address lawmakers and invited guests at the National Assembly complex in Abuja.
According to the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Democracy Day, Tinubu’s speech at the National Assembly is scheduled for noon.
A statement by Abdulhakeem Adeoye, on behalf of the Committee’s Director of Information and Public Relations, further confirmed that there will be no Democracy Day parade this year.
Adeoye added that a public lecture will be held later in the day at 4 p.m. at the State House Conference Centre, Abuja, as part of events commemorating the day.
