July 30, (THEWILL) — Turkish champions Galatasaray are on the verge of completing a landmark transfer for Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen, who is returning to the club after a successful loan spell last season.
The deal, expected to be finalised on Wednesday, is reportedly worth €75 million, making it the most expensive in Turkish football history. It surpasses the previous record of approximately €20 million, paid by Fenerbahce for Youssef En-Nesyri in the summer of 2024.
The agreement was reached following protracted negotiations in Milan between Galatasaray and Napoli, who had retained Osimhen after his four-season stint in Serie A.
Despite interest from several European clubs and Saudi side Al Hilal, Osimhen opted for a return to Istanbul. His previous loan campaign saw him win the Super Lig and Turkish Cup, while also forming a strong bond with the Galatasaray supporters.
Osimhen, who finished last season as the Super Lig’s top scorer with 26 goals, also broke the record for most goals by a foreign player in a single Turkish league campaign, netting 36 in all competitions.
His consistent performances during the 2024/2025 season elevated his status in the country and attracted significant media and fan attention.
According to Galatasaray’s official communication channels, the 26-year-old is scheduled to arrive in Istanbul at around 19:00 CET, with fans encouraged to track his flight in real time.
Preparations are underway for a large-scale reception at the airport, with supporters expected to gather en masse to welcome one of the club’s most impactful signings.
Osimhen’s relationship with Napoli deteriorated after the 2023/2024 season, prompting the move that brought him to Galatasaray on loan.
With that temporary spell now turning permanent, both club and player will look to build on the momentum of last season and aim for continued domestic dominance and a deeper run in European competition.
