Galatasaray Confirm Osimhen’s Forearm Fracture After 4-0 Liverpool Defeat

Osimhen Forearm Fracture

March 19, (THEWILL) — Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen endured nearly 45 minutes of UEFA Champions League football with a fractured right forearm on Wednesday night, playing through the injury during Galatasaray’s 4-0 defeat to Liverpool before being substituted at the interval.

The fracture occurred early in the first half after an aerial challenge involving Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté. Osimhen went down in visible distress, and Liverpool players, suspecting time-wasting, urged him to rise.

A brief confrontation with Dominik Szoboszlai followed before Galatasaray’s Mario Lemina and others stepped in to restore calm.

Osimhen received treatment off the pitch, returned with a bandaged arm, and pressed on until the break.

Galatasaray’s medical team issued a formal statement on Thursday after hospital tests: “After the match, a hospital examination… confirmed a fracture of the right forearm, and a cast was applied.

A decision regarding a possible surgical procedure will be made in the coming days after further tests.” Reports identified the ulna specifically as the affected bone.

The defeat eliminated Galatasaray on a 4-1 aggregate, overturning the 1-0 lead the Turkish club had taken from the first leg in Istanbul.

Liverpool advanced to the quarter-finals to face Paris Saint-Germain.

Osimhen, who had contributed 19 goals in 29 appearances across all competitions this season, is expected to travel to Nigeria during the club’s five-day break, with further medical reviews to follow.

Galatasaray suffered a second significant injury on the night.

Dutch winger Noa Lang collided with advertising hoardings after a tangle with Liverpool’s Curtis Jones in the 75th minute, sustaining a severe cut to his right thumb.

Lang was stretchered off the pitch and underwent surgery in Liverpool on Thursday.
