SAN FRANCISCO, July 23, (THEWILL) –Former military head of state and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), General Muhammadu Buhari, survived a bomb blast around Kawo District in Kaduna City Wednesday as his convoy got caught in the second blast that rocked the city around mid day.

His media aide, Mallam Yau Darazo told news website, The Cable that the retired soldier escaped unhurt but his vehicle was damaged.

The state Governor, Mr. Muktar Yero has declared a 24-hour curfew in the city following the blasts that killed many persons.

Buhari’s media aide said the APC leader was the target of the bomb blast. Buhari, who was travelling in a convoy of three SUVs was embarking on a trip to his hometown, Daura, Katsina state. The blast wounded three security aides while two of the three vehicles were damaged.

Darazo told northern based newspaper, Daily Trust that a suicide bomber in a wired vehicle had earlier trailed the convoy but was obstructed by the rear security vehicle.

However, as the convoy approached Kawo, the wired vehicle gained speed and was inches near Buhari’s armoured SUV and suddenly there was an explosion.

The police in Kaduna confirmed the attack.
