Ghana Beat Switzerland 2-0 In Final World Cup Warm-Up

November 17, (THEWILL) – Otto Addo’s Black Stars of Ghana defeated Switzerland 2-0 to set the tone for their match against Portugal in the opening fixture of Group H of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.

Goals from debut starts Mohammed Salisu and Antoine Semenyo, saw Ghana off to a comfortable win. From the beginning of the game, the Black Stars had the better opportunities but did not score until 20 minutes from the conclusion.

Inaki Williams, who recently switched nationalities to play for Ghana, narrowly missed the goal in the 32nd minute after a well-placed Jordan Ayew corner. There were no goals at the end of the first half and barely just two minutes into the second, the Swiss attempted to surprise Ghana but Noah Okafor’s strike missed Lawrence Ati-Zigi’s goalpost.

After a few ricochets, Mohammed Salisu, scored Ghana’s first goal in the 70th minute with a header that struck the right corner of the goal before going in. After Kamaldeen Sulemana’s spectacular solo run, Antoine Semenyo of Bristol City, scored on a rebound four minutes later to increase the Black Stars’ lead.

Thomas Partey and Mohammed Kudus, were rested for the pivotal match against Portugal, giving Salis Abdul Samed and Kamal Sowah the opportunity to register their own debuts.
