December 22, (THEWILL) — The Ghanaian authorities have deported 42 Nigerians and 26 other foreign nationals from the Ashanti region, following court rulings over alleged offences, including prostitution, fraud and related criminal activities.
The Ashanti Regional Minister, Frank Amoakohene, confirmed the deportations on Thursday via his official X handle, noting that the removals followed due judicial processes involving multiple cases.
According to the post seen by THEWILL on Monday, Amoakohene said those deported included 13 Cameroonians, three Ivorians, three Burkinabe nationals and seven citizens of Benin, bringing the total number of affected foreign nationals to 68.
“A total of 42 Nigerians, 13 Cameroonians, three Ivorians, three Burkinabe nationals and seven Benin nationals have been deported from the Ashanti Region to their respective countries following various court rulings involving Q-Net, prostitution and other criminal activities”, he stated.
The minister commended the Ghana Immigration Service for what he described as professionalism and diligence in enforcing the country’s immigration laws, while ensuring respect for due process and human dignity.
“I commend the Ghana Immigration Service for its professionalism, diligence and firm commitment to enforcing our immigration laws, while upholding due process and human dignity. Their collaboration with the courts and other security agencies continues to strengthen public safety, protect vulnerable persons and preserve law and order in the region”, Amoakohene added.
The development comes amid broader efforts by West African countries to curb transnational crimes and strengthen border security.
In Nigeria, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) recently announced the conclusion of the repatriation of 192 convicted foreign nationals.
The EFCC said the repatriation exercise was carried out in collaboration with the Nigerian Immigration Service and the Nigerian Correctional Service, following several convictions secured after the prosecution of 759 suspects arrested during a major sting operation on December 10, 2024, at Oyin Jolayemi Street, Victoria Island, Lagos.
