November 27, (THEWILL) — Atletico Madrid clinched a dramatic 2-1 triumph over Inter Milan in Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League encounter at the Metropolitano, with Jose Maria Gimenez heading home a 93rd-minute winner to send supporters into celebration.
Julian Alvarez gave the hosts an early lead in the ninth minute, firing into the far corner from a narrow angle on the right side. The strike was initially disallowed for handball but was reinstated after a VAR check. Inter responded strongly, with Hakan Calhanoglu forcing goalkeeper Juan Musso into action with a 20-yard effort, whilst Nicolo Barella struck the crossbar shortly after half-time.
