SAN FRANCISCO, January 09, (THEWILL) – Gombe State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Alhaji Inuwa Yahaya, has raised the alarm over alleged threat to his life, pointing accusing fingers at the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state.
The state police commissioner, Kudu Nma, disclosed this Wednesday at a media chat in Gombe, saying said the state Police Command had received a letter of complaint from Yahaya on the matter.
He however stressed that the petition was written by a supporter of the APC candidate on his behalf.
He also advised politicians to desist from keeping or using thugs to achieve their selfish ambitions, warning political parties against using inflammatory words against their opponents.
Yahaya had earlier on Tuesday told journalists in the state that his residence was attacked around 6pm , where one of his security aides was badly injured as and several vehicles in the compound were also torched.
“The whole thing happened in the evening around 6:00 o’clock, when I was holding a crucial meeting with some stakeholders of my party, as we suddenly heard a big sound. Initially we thought it was an electrical fault or something like that but when we rushed out, we realised it was attack by thugs.” Yahaya said.
Yahaya, who accused the PDP for the attack, condemned it, saying such attack could truncate democracy.
“This is one of the hazards we are suffering because we are in the opposition camp. The PDP sent those thugs to attack us in my own house. I say so because when we rushed out, we saw some of them. My people could identify them. I want to call on all politicians to be peaceful in all they do in order to enjoy democracy,” he said.
Normalcy has however returned to the compound as people around the area heave since been going about their normal activities just as the injured policeman is currently receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in the town.
