July 05, (THEWILL) — The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Benue State Chapter, has commended Governor Hyacinth Alia for his unwavering commitment to the development of sports, as well as his relentless sponsorship of Lobi Stars Football Club of Makurdi.
At its State Congress, presided over by the Chairman, Comrade Hembadoon Orsar in Makurdi on Friday, SWAN also praised Benue State Government for sponsoring its members to the just-concluded 22nd National Sports Festival tagged “Ogun 2024 Gateway Games”, held in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
While urging the State Government to extend the same gesture to subsequent National and International Sporting events, it appealed for the provision of more training facilities and other incentives for athletes in order to encourage them to harvest more medals at subsequent sports outings.
The association called on the leadership of Lobi Stars Football Club to involve SWAN members in the coverage of its league matches both at home and away, in order to give the team adequate publicity, as is being done by other football clubs in the country.
SWAN further called on the Director of Sports at the Benue State Sports Council to appoint members of the association as Public Relations Officer (PRO) or Media Officers to all the Sports Associations in the Council, as was done in the past.
In a communique signed by the drafting committee chairman, Judith Nomhwange, Moses Adikwu and Secretary, Mike Oyih, SWAN applauded the Benue State contingent to the just-concluded National Sports Festival held in Ogun State for their brilliant performance.
