March 24, (THEWILL) – Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, has assured residents of the timely completion of the Vanco Junction Flyover and Tunnel, describing the project as crucial to the development of Abakaliki, the state capital.
Speaking to journalists after inspecting the project site, Governor Nwifuru emphasized that the flyover was conceived to ease traffic congestion in the area.
“This is an idea initiated by our administration. The former governor, towards the end of his tenure, discussed the project with me, and we both agreed that due to the high volume of traffic in this location, constructing a flyover was necessary,” he said.
He dismissed concerns about the pace of work, insisting that significant progress had been made despite some misconceptions.
“Some people think the work is slow because they lack full knowledge of the project. This is a twin flyover with a tunnel—one of the best in the country when completed. We will soon create a forum to educate the public on its scope. The project is not slow by my assessment; the beams have already been completed,” he stated.
On the ongoing Water Treatment Plant project, Nwifuru revealed that work was about 80% completed, adding, “Very soon, there will be water everywhere.”
The governor also dismissed the idea of rushing projects for anniversary celebrations, emphasizing that his administration remains focused on long-term impact.
“I am not in a hurry to commission projects. I am not done yet. By God’s grace, I still have about six years to go. By that time, people will see what we have achieved with the mandate they gave us,” he declared.
