March 24, (THEWILL) – Ednaldo Rodrigues has been unanimously re-elected as president of the Brazilian Football Confederation winning all 67 available votes from representatives across the national football landscape.
The election brought forward from its original March 2026 date, came after football legend Ronaldo withdrew his leadership bid due to insufficient support from local federations.
The electoral college composition reveals a complex voting structure, with 27 regional federations allocated three votes each, 20 top-tier Serie A clubs receiving two votes, and 20 second-tier Serie B clubs granted one vote.
This system drew sharp criticism from Ronaldo, who argued that the electoral process effectively prevents meaningful competition within the organisation.
In his victory statement, Rodrigues emphasised the importance of unity and transparency within Brazilian football.
He highlighted the national football body’s commitment to improving its international reputation and preparing for the 2027 Women’s World Cup, which Brazil will host.
Ronaldo previously expressed frustration with the electoral system, stating on a Brazilian podcast that attempts to challenge the incumbent leadership were “difficult” and ultimately “impossible”.
His withdrawal from the race effectively paved the way for Rodrigues’ unchallenged re-election.
Rodrigues’ new mandate will officially commence in April 2026, providing him with continued leadership of Brazilian football.
