SAN FRANCISCO, June 01, (THEWILL) – The House of Representatives, in its plenary, on Wednesday, has called on all Federal Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to patronise goods made in Nigeria.
The resolution was passed after the adoption of a motion sponsored by Hon. Mojeed Alabi, who declared that an effective implementation of the policy would boost revenue generation and reduce capital flight.
Alabi, who called for the intervention of the House to compel all MDAs to patronise made-in-Nigerian products, argued that nearly a decade after enactment of the Local Content Act 2010, the implementation of the law by government agencies remained at the lowest ebb.
Supporting the motion, Hon. Jimoh Olajide declared that patronising locally made goods would help to rejuvenate and stimulate economic growth.
Adding his voice in support of the motion, Hon. Rotimi Agunsoye was of the opinion that it was time for Nigerian citizens abroad to come back home and develop the local economy of the country.
In his ruling, the Speaker, Hon. Yakubu Dogara, adopted the motion and mandated the joint committees on Finance and Public Procurement to ensure compliance.
