BEVERLY HILLS, CA, January 12, (THEWILL) –   Some irate youths suspected to be political thugs weekend  mobbed the convoy of Governor Kashim Shettima of Borno State along the Maiduguri International Airport in the state capital, pelting it with stones, sands and sachets of water.

The governor’s spokesman, Isa Gusau, expressed surprise at the incident, alleging that it was masterminded by hired political thugs brought in from outside the state.

Eyewitness accounts said the governor’s convoy ran into the mob of irate youths who chanted  antagonistic songs and hauled  stones, sands and sachet water at the governor’s vehicle.

“It took the intervention of policemen at the nearby Police Crack Squad to disperse the angry youth by releasing canisters of tear gas at them .

“We really don’t know what was happening on Saturday morning but we saw youths who are obviously political thugs filed around the way to the airport – some said they were expecting the arrival of former governor, Ali Modu Sheriff.

“Suddenly at about 10am or so, we heard the siren of the governor blaring past towards the airport and we also heard shouts ‘mai chin amana, mai chin amana’ ( betrayer, betrayer) as they continued to haul stones at the governor’s convoy,”  an auto mechanic, Yahaya Wakili,  whose workshop is very close to the airport road,  said.

The governor’s spokesman however said it took the maturity of the governor to control his security details from shooting at the mob.
