February 12, (THEWILL) – Nigerian singer-songwriter Tems has made history by joining San Diego FC’s ownership structure through her company, The Leading Vibe.
The announcement, made on Wednesday, marks her position as the first African female participant in MLS club ownership, adding significant cultural influence to the league’s leadership landscape.
“I am thrilled to join San Diego FC’s ownership group and to be part of a club that celebrates creativity, culture, and the power of community.
“Football has a unique way of bringing people together, and I am excited to help build something special in San Diego, a city that thrives on diversity and innovation,” Tems stated in the official press release.
The partnership includes collaboration with Pave Investments, an African private investment firm notable for its previous involvement with NBA Africa.
The investment group’s leadership, including Chairman Tunde Folawiyo and Founding Director Kwamena Afful, will integrate into the club’s ownership framework, strengthening the connection between professional sports and African investment.
San Diego FC CEO Tom Penn welcomed the addition of Tems to the ownership group, describing her as “an extraordinary artist and cultural force worldwide.”
The club aims to strengthen the relationship between the football and music industries while focusing on community development through sport.
The partnership will support the Right to Dream Academy, a youth football development programme, demonstrating the club’s dedication to nurturing emerging talent.
