May 08, (THEWILL) – A group, the Amunda Effium Consultative Assembly, in Ohaukwu local government area of Ebonyi State, has frowned at the creation of an autonomous community for the people of Ezza.
This was contained in a press statement issued and signed by the President-General, Hon Michael Inna, on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, and made available to journalists in Abakaliki.
According to the statement, it was wrong for the governor of Ebonyi State, Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, to reward Ezza people who have been in war with their host community, Effium, with the creation of an autonomous community.
The statement reads, “Gentlemen of the press, it is with deep concern and of utmost importance that the people of AMUDA EFFIUM are making this press briefing for the third time, following the executive bill by Ebonyi State Governor to the state House of Assembly for the creation of autonomous community for EZZA- EFFIUM.
“Your Excellency, we sincerely appreciate your efforts toward bringing a lasting peace in the Effium Community. We, therefore, state as follows:.
“That the people’s charter of needs promised by your administration should not encourage the war in Effium or other parts of Ebonyi State. Because it appears that when you fight a war with your host community, then you will be awarded an autonomous community.
“That the report/recommendations by Bishop Michael Nnachi Okoro ‘s report should not be abandoned without implementation.
“That creating autonomous community to EZZA-EFFIUM shows war has become an avenue to agitate for the creation of an autonomous community, that once you are in need of anything, you take your gun, since it was done in Eziulo, nothing happened, so they are doing it again.
“That, fighting a war, especially with your host community, is a parameter for creating an autonomous community in Ebonyi State.
“That, AMUDA EFFIUM is the number two in the list of community creation during Barr Julius Ali Ucha as Speaker and Dr Sam Egwu as Governor, but has not taken arms against her host despite the cancellation of the creation by the Federal High Court in Enugu.
“EZZAS came to Effium in 1911, while AMUDA people came in 1895, so who deserves to be given Autonomy first?
“Gentlemen of the press, Amuda Effium Consultative Forum hereby writes/advises the Governor as follows:. Bury the issue of creating/rewarding the EZZA’s with autonomous community, return to full implementations of Bishop Michael Nnachi Okoro and Barr Ben Uruchi Odo-led committee report and ask questions where necessary from other inhabitants in Effium for guidance.
“In conclusion, we state that AMUDA people and indigenes be given attention and not only people who took arms, as we remain resolute to your administration’s people’s charters of needs mantra”, they said.
