BEVERLY HILLS, CA, July 14, (THEWILL) – A group, Jonathan Peace Ambassadors (JPA), Monday came down heavily on the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) over what it described as the “persistent and unwarranted attacks ” on President Goodluck Jonathan. The group said rather than embarking on a campaign of calumny, APC should look for other ways to gain the popularity it is seeking.
Rising from its emergency meeting in Warri, Delta State, the group in a statement signed by Comrade Dan Erekake, Director General; Musa-Ododo Abdulrahman, National Secretary; and Comrade Michael Ikeogwu, Director, Media and Publicity; and made available to THEWILL, said it is unreasonable and condemnable for APC to continue to use the name of the President to gain cheap popularity.
Maintaining that “every Nigerian, by virtue of the provision of the constitution, has freedom of expression,” the party was however quick to add that such freedom does not guarantee the APC and its leadership the freedom to continue to cast aspersion on the personality of the President thereby undermining the unprecedented transformation President Jonathan has brought to bear since assumption of office.
“We wish to condemn in very strong term the statements by the APC that the decision to abide by the constitutional provision giving every one the right to vote and be voted for and guarantee any Nigerian the right to seek two terms in office is generating terrorism.
“While President Jonathan and other well-meaning Nigerians with the support of the international community are working tireless to fight terrorism, APC is busy criticising the good intentions of the President.
“President Jonathan’s Administration has aptly left no one in doubt and it is leaving no stone unturned in its massive infrastructure development with thousands of kilometres of federal roads, bridges either constructed or rehabilitated.
“What about our almost forgotten rail system which is now steaming back to life with modern couches? The nation has also been witnessing stability in supply and pricing of petroleum products.
“No doubt an investment friendly environment has been created with effective wealth creation mechanism put in place where competent indigenous entrepreneurs have the benefits of taking the centre stage in the global market.
“The Jonathan Administration created the Almajiri education system in the North which perhaps has helped in the resistance to Boko Haram (education is sin) syndrome prevalent in the North East.
“The list can go on and on but let it be noted that no amount of APC campaign can dissuade President Jonathan from delivering the good work he is doing for Nigerians,” the group stated.
JPA stated further that APC as a party lacks the moral right to accuse President Jonathan of impunity when its so-called governors violate the constitution at will.
“The case of Fayemi of Ekiti State is very fresh in mind . He ‘ruled’ and not govern for four years without having elected local government officials.
“What about Nyako of APC-controlled Adamawa State with similar and more violated constitutional provisions now facing impeachment even though he is trying to ‘bribe’ his way, “ the group stated. It therefore called on all well-meaning Nigerians at the on-going National Conference to remain steadfast, fight against sectionalism and support resolutions that will emphasise the unity of Nigeria which, according to the group, President Jonathan stands for.
