June 14, (THEWILL) – After a 104-94 victory against the Boston Celtics in Game 5 of the NBA Finals, the Golden State Warriors, are one win away from another championship.
Andrew Wiggins stole the show with 26 points, 13 rebounds, two assists, and two steals in one of the most crucial games of his career. Despite Stephen Curry’s 0-for-9 shooting from beyond the arc, the Warriors were able to win the game at home and pile the pressure on Ime Udoka’s side.
The Celtics built themselves a massive hole early in the game and ran out of gas in the fourth quarter, despite Jayson Tatum’s 27 points and 10 rebounds. Boston’s turnovers were an issue yet again, with 18 turnovers resulting in 22 points for the Warriors.
On Monday night, the Warriors’ bench was also a huge advantage. Jordan Poole and Gary Payton combined for 29 points as Golden State’s second unit defeated Boston 31-10. Golden State’s strong fourth-quarter effort was fueled by Poole’s big buzzer-beating 35-foot heave at the end of the third quarter.
In Game 5, the GSW relied on an all-around team effort, which was especially important given Curry’s poor performance. The Warriors will go to Boston for Game 6 on Thursday, with a chance to win their fourth NBA title in four years.
