SAN FRANCISCO, November 24, (THEWILL) – The Chief Registrar of the Rivers State High Court, Mr. Leonard Adoki, has been abducted in his ancestral home in Abua/Odual local government district of Rivers State, by yet to be identified gunmen.
The Rivers State police command told reporters in oil rich Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital, that he was abducted by gunmen and transported to an unknown location.
Kidnapping for a ransom is common in the oil rich Niger Delta.
Spokesperson of the police, Mr. Ahmad K. Mohammad, said two members of the gang were chased by locals, caught and handover to the police.
He said the gunmen are yet to contact the police or the family of the officer of the court.
THEWILL recalls that a female sibling of Nigeria’s influential Petroleum Minister, Deziani Alison-Madueke, was kidnaped in Port Harcourt a few weeks ago by gunmen only to be freed a few days later, after an unspecified sum was paid as a ransom.
The police later said some persons were detained following the incident.
