BEVERLY HILLS, September 02, (THEWILL) – The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Okitipupa local government area of Ondo State, Mr Niyi Pirisola was on Friday assassinated by unknown gunmen.
THEWILL gathered that Pirisola killed in his house in Ilutitun via Okitipupa in the early hours of the day.
The state chapter of the PDP, in statement by its Publicity Secretary, Mr Banji Okunomo, reacting to the killing, called on the Police and other security agencies in the state to investigate the murder especially as the state is approaching an election period.
“This is necessary because of the sensitivity of the times that we are in Ondo State considering that the state is preparing for its governorship election, which holds in November 26, 2016,” the statement read.
“The PDP cautions against anything that could heat up the polity and impede the transition process that is being prepared for in our dear Sunshine State. We must not allow hoodlums to tamper with this track record or dent our image in any way.”
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the state Police Command, Femi Joseph confirmed the incident but added that no suspect has been arrested in connection with the death of Pirisola.
He declared that the Police are on top of the situation and urged admirers of the late politician to remain calm till the Police conclude their investigations.
Meanwhile, about 14 staff members of Nestoil Plc. have been abducted by gunmen in Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State.
THEWILL gathered that the company bus conveying the 14 to the office on Friday morning was accosted around Omoku town and diverted to an unknown destination at gunpoint.
