BEVERLY HILLS, CA, March 28, (THEWILL) – Two lawyers, Mr. Eguono Dafiaghor and Mr. Samuel O. Ekuwanju of Whytfort Jurisconsult Chambers , Udu Road, Ovwian Town, Warri, Delta State,
were on Thursday shot dead by unknown gunmen at Ozoro, the headquarters of Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State.
Their remains of the lawyers were found dumped in the car in which they were traveling .
They were said to be handling a “high-profile case”, and were on their way to the court in the area before they were ambushed around Ozoro where they were killed in cold blood.
Meanwhile, members of the Warri branch of the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) on Friday held an emergency meeting over the matter even as the state command of the Nigerian Police has expressed shock over the matter.
Spokesperson of the Delta State Police Command, Ms Celestina Kalu, confirmed the killing, saying the police had commenced investigation into the incident.
She said the remains of the two lawyers had been deposited in a hospital mortuary in Warri awaiting autopsy.
Reactions have continued to trail the killing of the two lawyers as the National Coordinator of Forum for Justice and Human Rights Defence (FJHD), Mr Oghenejabor Ikimi, described the incident as both shocking and sad. He wondered why lawyers could be the target of hired assassins, wondering if it was in connection with the high-profile case they were handling.
