March 21, (THEWILL) – Arsenal defender, Takehiro Tomiyasu, will miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury sustained during the Gunners’ UEFA Europa League clash with Sporting CP.
The Japan international was withdrawn in the opening exchanges of the game, which ended in a 1-1 draw and ultimately saw Arsenal lose on penalties. Despite his injury, the Gunners managed to secure a 4-1 victory over Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Tomiyasu underwent successful surgery on his right knee in London on Tuesday, which will rule him out of the remainder of the season.
