BEVERLY HILLS, September 26, (THEWILL) – Emir of Zing, Alhaji Abbas Sambo, who led the Taraba State delegation to the 2015 annual hajj in Mecca, Saudi Arabia, was also killed in the stampede.
Unconfirmed reports Saturday said at least 200 Nigerian pilgrims died in the stampede, which occurred when two large groups of pilgrims on their way to perform the “stoning of the devil” ritual arrived together at a junction on Thursday.
At least 717 Muslim pilgrims were killed during the stampede, which left hundreds of others with injuries.
