SAN FRANCISCO, July 06, (THEWILL) – Goals from Cristiano Ronaldo and Nani earned Portugal a 2-0 victory and a place in Sunday’s final against either France or Germany.
Portugal captain, Ronaldo, wrote his name into the record books, scored the first and made the second for Nani as two former Manchester United players sent Wales home in a two-goal thriller.
It was always going to take something extra special to end the Wales fairy-tale and Cristiano Ronaldo upstaged Gareth Bale in the most spectacular fashion.
The match was dubbed as the Ronaldo vs Bale showdown almost as soon as the fixture was announced.
With both players looking either side’s main threat, it was Ronaldo who came out on top, thumping a header from a corner on the 50th minute.
A second goal from Nani, with the help of a Ronaldo assist, ended Wales’ Euro 2016 dream for good.
However, for Bale and the rest of his team-mates, Wales reaching the semi-final of major international tournament was an incredible achievement.
Prior to the tournament, there were few who thought Chris Coleman’s side would make it so far, but a string of fine performances, including a spectacular display against Belgium, proved all the doubters wrong.
