Herdsmen Killings: Tears, Sadness As Benue Holds Mass Burial

Tears flowed freely at the IBB Square in Makurdi, Benue state capital, on Thursday as thousands of residents trooped out to witness the mass burial of victims of herdsmen killings.

Over 80 people have been reported to have been killed in the attacks which began in the first week of the year.

It was reported that 74 graves had been dug at Adeke, a village in Makurdi where the victims would be buried, while 61 coffins were on ground at the event.

Some of the residents couldn’t hide their anger as they placed curses on the killers.

Government offices, commercial banks, markets and schools were closed the state capital in observance of the work-free day earlier declared by the State Government in honour of the victims.

Some of the residents expressed worries over the incessant attacks on farmers in the state and said that the acts were unhealthy.
