June 11, (THEWILL) – Lack of maintenance culture, ability to track performance against skilful manpower, and accounting among others will form the basis for discussions at the forthcoming Hotel Managers Conference (HMC) scheduled to hold between July 13 and July 14, 2023, in Owerri, Imo State.
With this year’s theme, ‘Conference Performance: Management Performance In All Ramifications’, HMC industry practitioners will offer participants and hotel owners the opportunity to learn from the experience and expertise they garnered over the years, such that various challenges affecting the industry growth across Nigeria states would be addressed.
The Chief Executive Officer and Convener of HMC, Olugbenga Omotayo Sunday, who gave the hint on Sunday, also noted that hoteliers’ inability to put in place a workable accounting structure and lack of attention to maintenance culture amounts to loss of finance as well as business failure.
He added that hoteliers are also faced with the problem of getting capable marketing and branding handlers, who can strategically make their products visible and acceptable to the public.
According to him, “Hotels will open today and in the next three years, you can’t even believe that it was newly open. So, we want to address all these issues and that’s why we put the team of this year’s conference, Performance Management: Performance In All Ramifications.”
Earlier, Sunday promised to bring real-time solutions to challenges facing the hospitality business.
He said, “Hospitality operation is centred on performance, goal setting, activation, monitoring, measurement and evaluation. Without performance, hospitality business, investors and management would lose their relevance as the business would no longer be sustainable.
“We hope that as we focus on this theme, we would clarify the dilemma for both management and investors, which stems from an intrinsic perspective where both parties look to meet and surpass targets and get returns on investments.
“A lot of investments and costs go into sustaining hospitality facilities with the human resources and it is expected that there will be returns.
“This looks simple to a layperson but it is not to professionals and the owners. The drive to achieve success, to have returns on investments, is a big dilemma for all the parties involved.
“In this year’s edition, we have a mandate to simplify and clear common misconceptions and provide tested approaches to understanding and working as a team between managers and owners in the business, as this would ensure returns for the business owners and the management.
