May 26, (THEWILL) – The Hydrocarbon Pollution Remediation Project (HYPREP) has taken a major step forward in the implementation of the Ogoni Power Project, a critical infrastructure initiative aimed at revitalising the socio-economic landscape of Ogoniland.
The Project Coordinator, Prof. Nenibarini Zabbey, led a high-level technical delegation to JSB Zhejiang Jiangshan Transformer Co., Ltd. in Jiangshan, China, to conduct the Factory Acceptance Test (FAT) for transformers—an essential component of the power project.
In a statement, HYPREP disclosed that the test was carried out between May 22 and May 24, 2025, by a joint technical team comprising its engineers, representatives from project contractor Energovod Engineering Ltd., and the supervision consultant, Oska-Jo and Partners Ltd.
The inspection covered four 60 MVA power transformers and six 300 kVA earthing transformers, which are intended for deployment at the Bodo and Wiiyaakara substations.
“Following a meticulous evaluation, the team confirmed that the equipment met all contract specifications and complied with international standards. Satisfied with the outcome, Prof. Zabbey formally signed off on the test results, authorising the shipment of the equipment to Nigeria,” the statement said.
The development marks a critical milestone in the delivery of a robust power transmission line and substation network across Ogoniland.
According to HYPREP, 40 containers of power equipment previously tested in India and China have already arrived at the Wiiyaakara Substation, further underlining the project’s steady progress.
“The successful completion of the FAT underscores HYPREP’s commitment to quality and its resolve to ensure that every component of the Ogoni Power Project meets global standards,” the agency added.
HYPREP expressed optimism that with this latest progress, the long-anticipated project is drawing closer to reality—promising to transform lives, boost economic activities, and enhance energy access for communities in Ogoniland.
