BEVERLY HILLS, CA, July 17, (THEWILL) – The House of Representatives Thursday began its long vacation to resume on September 16.
The announcement was made at the plenary by the Deputy Speaker Emeka Ihedioha.
Meanwhile, the House Thursday passed the bill for the creation of Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Board of Internal Revenue. The bill for the Establishment of the Board, was brought to the House by Hon. Emmanuel Jime (APC-Benue); as the board seeks to centralise all taxes due to the territory for purposes of development and administration.
A report on the Bill containing 85 clauses was approved at the committee of the whole.
Leading debate on the report of the bill, Hon. Jime said the Board would guarantee a more robust economy for the FCT.
“This Revenue Board would ensure a steady stream of revenue for the Federal Capital Territory Administration and help it generate more funds for purposes of development,” he said.
The Bill as passed by the House awaits concurrence from the Senate before the consent and establishment of the Board by the President.
Meanwhile, the House Thursday referred President Goodluck Jonathan’s request to borrow the sum of $1 billion to tackle security challenges in the country to its Committees on Aids, Loans, Debts and Finance for further legislative scrutiny.
Speaker of the House, Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, who gave the directive at the plenary, also referred an earlier request for the appropriation of the funding of the Police to the Committee on Police and Finance.
Also on Thursday, the House stood down consideration of the report of its Committee on Drugs, Narcotics and Financial Crimes on a ” bill for an act to establish the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Centre as the central body in Nigeria responsible for receiving, requesting, analysing and disseminating financial intelligence reports and other information to law enforcement security and intelligence agencies and other relevant authorities.”
