Hull City owner Assem Allam has announced that the club is for sale as a result of the FA’s refusal to allow him to change it’s name.

Allam, an Egyptian businessman, brought Hull in 2010 and his financial contributions helped build a squad which reached the Premier League last year and the FA Cup final last spring.

However, he was also behind a controversial attempt to rename the club Hull Tigers, which was thrown out by the Football Association Council in April, apparently prompting his decision to sell the club.

Allam said: “We have begun appeal of decision. Until conclusion of either sale or appeal we will remain committed to the club.”
