SAN FRANCISCO, January 09, 2014, (THEWILL) – Delta State Governor Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan has said that he is not only a foundation member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) but a life member of the party.
Governor Uduaghan who stated this Wednesday at an interactive session with journalists in Asaba debunked the rumours that he would soon decamp to another political party to achieve his senatorial ambition stating that “nothing would make me leave PDP, I am ready to pitch tent with the party till the end. I will remain in PDP come what may.”
He further said: “Delta State is a PDP state where almost all its elected officials are members of the party and the few ones remaining in other political parties are just waiting for a date from the state chairman of our party to cross over to PDP”.
“I cannot leave the party, even in 2007 when my name was removed from the ward register and I was contesting, I remained in the party and faced the challenges. Let me assure you that PDP is a grassroots based party and our strategy in Delta state is to ensure that we interface with the grassroots in all we do.
All government officials in the state know that they must attend their ward’s monthly meetings or be sanctioned. This is to ensure that we relate with our base in the wards”.
The governor reiterated that PDP as the only grassroots-based party found in every ward in the country would wax stronger this year and would get more members.
Dr. Uduaghan said, “There has been a lot of pressure to run for a seat in the senate, when the right time comes you will know if l will run or not. If I will run, it will be under our great party, PDP.”
Explaining further, he disclosed that there was an unwritten arrangement in which the senatorial seat rotates among the tribes in Delta South Senatorial District stating that it was the turn of the Itsekiris to produce the next candidate for the senate.
Uduaghan observed that he has the right to vie for a senatorial seat in his district if he wants because he has grown in the politics of the state and country over time and was an active member of PDP.
He acknowledged that the party was having some challenges at the national level but that measures were been taken to tackle the challenges and called on all PDP members in other states to support the party.
The governor explained that the state government will continue to liaise with members in other geopolitical zones to reduce the political distractions on the President to enable him concentrate on governance.
